An ongoing log mainly concerned with the bowel movements of small mammals - or so it seems.
Thursday, June 30, 2005 OSX E-mail client round-up 2005
Since the Apple Mail app has gone and deserted my IMAP and POP accounts for no apparent reason and has been consistently buggy since 10.3.9, the hunt for a new e-mail app has begun. After the gruelling May/June I've managed to blow a lot of time at the office invetigating between impure thoughts about Goldfrapp. The results so far: Entourage - let's not speak of the evil that is Entourage because not using it is the other driving factor in this... Eudora - never liked it. don't plan to now GNUMail - intrigues me but doesn't have HTML support which I sort of need for work. GyazMail - Like the interface but doesn't support IMAP so can't use it for the office account. Still a bit too limited for what I need. But if they keep developing it I might switch. PowerMail - Used it before and it's pretty good and really fast. There's just something about a company that has no documentation on their product and absolutely no tech support that bothers me. Not to mention the way they handle the pricing - get a deal but only if you recommend it to a friend and they buy it. Thunderbird - So far the winner. Free and has a good built in spam filter. Plus can handle RSS feeds. Still a bit buggery, not superduper fast, font display not spectular, and fine tuning the account prefs not intuitive. The deciding factor has been mainly that I like the name and the icon goes well with my Harvey Birdman desktop. There's always Pine and Emacs if I get really desparate or pissed off. Or maybe apple will fix up their mail client... net and cover issues related to copyright and USENET/Internet publication.
Wednesday, June 22, 2005 Tuesday, June 21, 2005 Sunday, June 19, 2005 So much exciting news I have to catch up on this week. Most of it already done to death like MJ and his ChoMo ways getting off. But who didn't see that happening? Obviously California is a good place to commit crimes.
Live 8 - Canadian show rounding up woeful CanCon dinosaurs like Barenaked Ladies and Adams. Not that there's really any acts I'd go out of my way to see at any of the venues but this is the calibre of the best "modern" Canadian acts they could round up? And why doesn't Bono donate his own personal wealth to world debt if he's so concerned. And then there's the whole TomKat bullshit. I'd say the biggest question here is if Scientology can cure Tom's dysexia can it cure her cold sores? ![]() Let's see, worked till 11 almost every night this week. About the only note worthy thing this week is that Pimm's is once again available here.
Remember that lemonade is not lemonade.
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 Sunday, June 12, 2005 Friday, June 10, 2005 ![]() Dear George Lucas Was it just me or did Yoda start to look more like Pope John Paul in this episode...Oh and by the way, did you ever think of hiring someone who could act or at least had charisma to play a young Darth Vader? just a thought. ![]() They've tried to downplay the S in the sign but PMS Hobby Craft still ranks as an example of one of the worst ideas for a store name Wednesday, June 08, 2005 A visit from travelling relatives just isn't complete until you puke up a corn fritter from Chicken on the Way.
Friday, June 03, 2005 ![]() Did a quick trace in Illustrator of a bad screen dump to make quickee OSX and XP icons of Worker and Parasite. High quality versions would sort of defeat the purpose wouldn't it. And if you're bored go watch some other Eastern European animation and puppets Thursday, June 02, 2005 |
